In order to provide safe, reliable service and meet increasing demand for electricity, Sertex was enlisted to expand the Rochester Gas & Electric substation capacity. The Penfield NY, RG&E Station 124 site footprint went from two acres to five acres on existing RG&E property in order to accommodate new equipment. Sertex was responsible for the civil underground package, which included building in-ground concrete structures exceeding 2,000 cubic yards of concrete, more than 10,000 feet of conduit and 1100 feet of cable trench.
Sertex also provided and installed the drainage system, grounding system and more than 300 feet of 17-foot high sound barrier walls. In addition to the civil underground work performed, Sertex applied its extensive telecom background to perform Fiber acceptance testing on the optical ground wire (OPGW) placed in conjunction with the new transmission line connecting the new station to the existing grid. This project will serve the greater Rochester area’s demand for increased electrical requirements and updated equipment.
